5 Things to Know About Niko Bellic from GTA IV

Niko Bellic is the main character of Grand Theft Auto IV. His name in Serbian is Niko Beli, and he is also a supporting character in The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony. In Grand Theft Auto V, Lester Crest and Patrick McReary also talk about him.

Niko is a war veteran who moves to the United States to start a new life and get away from his troubled past. But he quickly gets caught up in the criminal underworld of the made-up city of Liberty City, where he has to survive in a world of violence and corruption.

1. Early life and family

Niko was born in 1978 in Yugoslavia. It seemed like his father was a drunk who beat him up. Milica Bellic was sad that her son had to grow up in such a hard place. During the Yugoslav Wars, his brother was killed. Niko says that where he grew up, there was no electricity until he was twelve years old.

2. He Served in Bosnian Wars

During the Bosnian Wars conflict, he was assigned duties as both an infantryman and a helicopter pilot. Additionally, during the mission Easy Fare, Roman makes a reference to him operating a tank. Niko was both a witness to and a participant in a number of heinous acts during the war, which contributed to the development of his pessimistic outlook on life, as well as his feelings of regret, sadness, and emotional distancing.

3. Niko’s Life Post War

After the war, it was hard for Niko to find steady work. Roman, Niko’s cousin, had already moved to America to start a new life in Liberty City. Niko, on the other hand, spent the next ten years working in the criminal underworld of Europe, which led to a time in a European prison. During the game, Niko says he moved to Liberty City to live the American Dream and start a new life, but when he gets there, he has nothing but Roman.

4. Niko’s suffering from a quarter-life crisis

Niko grew up in hard times and saw the horrors of war. As a result, he feels frustrated, hopeless, confused about where his life is going, overwhelmed, unappreciated, cynical, and unfulfilled. Niko often gets violent when he’s angry, and he has a short fuse when he’s lied to, tricked, or his loyalty is questioned. On the other hand, he’s quick to help the weak and unfortunate, even if he just meets them on the street.

5. Niko is mentioned in Grand Theft Auto V

In Grand Theft Auto V, Lester Crest considers “an Eastern European guy making movements in Liberty City” as an accomplice for a jewellery store heist with protagonist Michael De Santa before dismissing the notion, saying he “went quiet”. If chosen for “The Paleto Score,” Patrick McReary will discuss the Liberty City bank heist he, Niko, his brother Derrick, and partner Michael Keane committed, noting that the latter two are deceased and that Niko is presumably dead since he hasn’t heard from him in five years. Niko’s LifeInvader profile shows that he still works for Roman’s cab firm as an Easter egg. Niko’s birthday wish to his cousin suggests Roman survived the game.
